Summer Program Introduces Local Students to Healthcare Careers

Karma Club Teen, 做厙勛圖, and Sutter Health have launched a summer healthcare career exploration program for Marin County high school students.
The Future Healers Academy offers an immersive experience that blends lectures, basic life support certifications, and academic exploration. Classes will be held at Karma Club, a free teen center located in San Rafaels Northgate Mall, and at Dominican through July 10.
This innovative initiative offers high school students an opportunity to engage directly with Dominican faculty to explore the academic and practical pathways into healthcare and gain insight into the healthcare professions that are shaping the future of community wellness.
This program was created to give young people especially those from our underserved communities the opportunity to see themselves in healthcare careers, said Sally Newson, Director of nonprofit Karma Club Teen. By partnering with institutions like Sutter Health and Dominican, were providing early exposure and meaningful connections that can shape lifelong paths.
Dominican faculty are delivering a series of introductory sessions focused on Dominicans health sciences programs, including occupational therapy, nursing, kinesiology, counseling psychology, and physician assistant studies.
Through these experiences, students will gain a broad, practical understanding of the healthcare sector and the steps required to pursue a professional career within it, says Dr. Mojgan Behmand, Dominicans Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Future Healers Academy is designed to not only foster career readiness but also support the development of a diverse and informed future healthcare workforce.
Sutter Health is committed to building healthier communities, and that includes investing in the next generation of caregivers, said Bindi Gandhi, Sutter Healths Community Health Director. The Future Healers Academy aligns perfectly with our mission by cultivating curiosity, compassion, and confidence in future health professionals.
